DIY Tutorial: Glitter Jars

Our fabulous Homemade Bride Kate Petersen is back with another super easy DIY tutorial. Today its all about glitter jars! All images by Maria Farrelly Photography. Over to you Kate…

If you ask my other half what my favourite colour is he will tell you it’s “Sparkle!” Sparkly blue, sparkly pink, sparkly yellow, Sparkle! Anything with a bit of bling works for me. These jars are fabulous and can be used as vases or candle holders. They are easy and can be made well in advance so you don’t have a million and one things to do just before the wedding.

What you will need:

  • Glitter in the colour of your choice
  • PVA glue
  • Masking tape
  • Paint brush
  • Glue gun
  • A brooch

Mask off half of the jar. Make sure it is clean and dry. DIY_glittered_jar002

DIY_glittered_jar003Paint the glue on the bottom half of the jar with the PVA glue. You need to work quickly as the glue dries quickly.

Sprinkle the glitter over the glue. Remember to put some paper down to catch all the excess :) It can get very messy. There is a time when there is too much sparkle! DIY_glittered_jar007DIY_glittered_jar008DIY_glittered_jar009DIY_glittered_jar010

Before the glue completely dries remove the masking tape.

When the glue gun is warmed up smother the back of the brooch and then place on the jar that you want to attach it to. DIY_glittered_jar015DIY_glittered_jar016DIY_glittered_jar017DIY_glittered_jar018

Hold it in place till it is dry. Be careful it can get very hot. DIY_glittered_jar019

There you have it! These catch the light beautifully. I used a brooch but you can use anything that takes your fancy. A silk flower looks lovely. Have a look through your old jewellery and see what bits, bobs and beads you can use.

DIY Tutorial: Bride and Groom Hay Bales

Planning a marquee wedding on a Welsh farm this summer? If so, you are going to LOVE this DIY tutorial featuring Bride & Groom Hay Bales.

Last year I photographed Beth & Matt’s beautiful wedding on a farm in Magor.  I love photographing farm weddings. Not only do I get to enjoy some epic views across the Welsh countryside but generally EVERYONE in the town/village appears to gets an invite! and everyone seems to be involved in some way in the lead up to the big day. I love that!

When it comes to styling a farm wedding, the Rustic theme tends to be a clear winner. And why not, its certainly fitting for the landscape.   Homemade & DIY tend to feature in some way. Generally its the favours, the flowers, the cake ….but I have to say, when I arrived at this wedding, I was gobsmacked. I’ve NEVER seen a giant B&G made of hay bales before!

Fabulous, aren’t they!

They certainly fitted in well and were a huge talking point throughout the day.

You could see them from miles away and the guests certainly loved them. Haybale Mr & Mrs DIY Maria Farrelly_005

they also made a great prop for photographs :)

How to make them:

Thankfully, Beth’s friends took some pictures as they were being made. As you can see, a tractor is essential!

Once the hay bales were stacked, they used huge white sheets (for the wedding dress) and black bags (for the grooms suit),

For the eyes- paper plates, lips-red bin liner, Veil- netting, grooms hat- a tyre & bucket. The brides cleavage- I believe it was 2 balls or 2 balloons :) Simple! Haybale Mr & Mrs DIY Maria Farrelly_010

Sunday Ramblings: In Sickness And In Health

How many of us spend Sunday morning, lying in bed, scrolling through FB having a little nose at what is going on in everyone else’s world before getting up and starting the day? Most of what we read is the same thing over and over… an old school friends holiday pics, inspiration quotes and ads etc… but occasionally, you come across a piece of gold that stops you in your tracks and makes you think WOW…this needs sharing. Nikki Goode is an awe inspiring woman and i’ll be sharing more about her and her wedding soon. But today, with her permission, I want to share a post she’s just put online on what is her wedding anniversary today.

When I was in hospital and through my rehab, to this day I have read as much as I can about stroke, brain injury and the brain looking for ways to aid my recovery.

One of the most frightening things I read was that 75% of relationships fail 3 years post injury. But 5 years later here we are still standing strong! Plus I never needed a book to tell me that I’d get great odds marrying this great guy (he is an ex bookie after all) and is my greatest recovery aid.

It’s fair to say we’ve be through a lot more than most- we’ve had 2 brain surgeries. 1 breast cancer scare and subsequent biopsy which added more metal to my body and a heart scare. But we are still in it together.

As one of the greats, Seamus Heaney once said:

So if, my dear, there sometimes seem to be
Old bridges breaking between you and me

Never fear. We may let the scaffolds fall
Confident that we have built our wall.

Happy anniversary to the wonderful Andrew Goode to whom I owe a lot and love very very much.❤️❤️❤️❤️

From all of us here at Cwtch The Bride, have an awesome anniversay Nikki.
