DIY Tutorial: Glitter Jars

Our fabulous Homemade Bride Kate Petersen is back with another super easy DIY tutorial. Today its all about glitter jars! All images by Maria Farrelly Photography. Over to you Kate…

If you ask my other half what my favourite colour is he will tell you it’s “Sparkle!” Sparkly blue, sparkly pink, sparkly yellow, Sparkle! Anything with a bit of bling works for me. These jars are fabulous and can be used as vases or candle holders. They are easy and can be made well in advance so you don’t have a million and one things to do just before the wedding.

What you will need:

  • Glitter in the colour of your choice
  • PVA glue
  • Masking tape
  • Paint brush
  • Glue gun
  • A brooch

Mask off half of the jar. Make sure it is clean and dry. DIY_glittered_jar002

DIY_glittered_jar003Paint the glue on the bottom half of the jar with the PVA glue. You need to work quickly as the glue dries quickly.

Sprinkle the glitter over the glue. Remember to put some paper down to catch all the excess :) It can get very messy. There is a time when there is too much sparkle! DIY_glittered_jar007DIY_glittered_jar008DIY_glittered_jar009DIY_glittered_jar010

Before the glue completely dries remove the masking tape.

When the glue gun is warmed up smother the back of the brooch and then place on the jar that you want to attach it to. DIY_glittered_jar015DIY_glittered_jar016DIY_glittered_jar017DIY_glittered_jar018

Hold it in place till it is dry. Be careful it can get very hot. DIY_glittered_jar019

There you have it! These catch the light beautifully. I used a brooch but you can use anything that takes your fancy. A silk flower looks lovely. Have a look through your old jewellery and see what bits, bobs and beads you can use.
