Real Wedding: Leah & Ollie’s Summer Wedding by Marie Lloyd Photography

Today’s Real Wedding is Leah & Ollie’s do, held at the Summer Place in Llandudno, in June 2012. Photographer Marie Lloyd captured their summer wedding in all it’s glory :)

What style did you want for the day? For my hair and make-up I wanted loose curls with a romantic look and to make a feature of the headpiece. The hairdressers were Nikki Charls in Llandudno. My dear friend Jess had the hard task of making me look beautiful on my big day and she was very nervous but did a lovely job. I had a pearl and diamante 1940s necklace that was ‘something borrowed’, which lent itself beautifully to the vintage look I was trying to create. My diamond earrings were a gift from Ollie on the morning of the wedding. Although it took 20 mins to put them on as they were screw on earrings (he doesn’t trust me not to lose them).

How would you describe your wedding theme? I wanted to create a relaxed springtime romantic look in the marquee with a random selection of blooms and flowers in the mismatched cut glass vases and cake stands. The bouquets consisted of vintage roses, spray roses, lily of the valley and silver leaf foliage wrapped in lace.

The boys wore grey silk tailcoat suit from Austin Reed and the groom and best man wore a Marc Wallace floral print tie which tied in perfectly with the style and colour scheme.

Why did you choose your venue? The ceremony was at All Saints church, Deganwy,  followed by a marquee reception at Summer Palace, west shore beach, Llandudno, which had amazing views.

On the day we had planned to take some retro pictures on the nearby Llandudno pier followed by some sunset shots on the beach but due to the stormy weather Marie suggested some pictures in a nearby art gallery which gave a different look to what we has originally thought of!

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? I changed my dress sash for a corsage belt with Swarovski crystal on it to add some subtle sparkle. The pearl and diamante headpiece was custom made and gave it a vintage look. I had hand written all the place names myself with pebbles from the beach outside our house and guests were able to take them away as a souvenir. We had also made some face props and placed a selection on the table which was in keeping with the table numbers that we had shot with our photographers in advance.

What was your first dance & why? Our first dance was to Simply the Best by Tina Turner. Leah is a huge Tina turner fan and likes to think of herself as the next Tina Turner on the dance floor.

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? We both wish we had had fewer alcohol drinks before embarking on the first dance as there ended up being a fair few stumbles!

What music did you pick for the day? During the church service we had a male voice choir called Cor Meibion Colwyn. I was very emotional as soon as i got to the church and heard the 30 strong choir entertaining the congregation before my arrival. My sister Kelly also sang songbird by Eva Cassidy with Ollie’s school friend playing the piano whilst we signed the register. Ollie and I then danced back down the aisle to Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder! :) During the canapés we had a 15 strong drum band called Batala which really got the party spirit started. In the evening we all danced away to a 5 piece Welsh band called IPOP. Who were a real hit!

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? It was really important to us that the wedding reflected our personalities and we wanted it to be as personal to us as possible, so although there was a lot of organising involved prior to the big day I enjoyed planning all the little details that went into the marquee. In the year leading up to the wedding I had been raiding the charity shops and collecting cut glass vases in all different sizes and shapes to create the vintage look and we placed flowers in them and randomly placed them on the tables.

Ollie and I are big fans of fancy dress and so dug out our huge repertoire of fancy dress that we had collected over the years and had a fancy dress box on the side of the dance floor which was very funny although we may have to put some missing posters out as the Kermit mask has gone missing!! :)
